Asian Skin Care Routine

I care a lot about skin care routine: I've always admired the beautiful skin of the korean's girls; whether in the pictures or in the video, and also in person, it appears bright and flawless.
For this reason I made some research to know how they care it, I discovered that they dedicated more time and more products to protect and nourish it than western women.

Usually western women use three phases skin care: cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

In Asia, an average skin care routine includes 5-10 phases: cleansing oil, foaming cleanser, booster/toner, serum, emulsion, eye cream, cream, sunscreen. Additionally, the women regularly use sheet masks (nourishing, moisturizing, brightening), exfoliators, and sleeping pack.
Asian women use the layering technique to get the most benefits: it involves gently patting and massaging, from the lightest to the highest consistency until absorption.

Asian routine skin care

Step 1 - Oil cleanse
The oil removes most of the makeup and and dirts.

Step 2 – Foaming cleanser/Cleaning milk
It cleans thoroughly the skin.

Step 3 – Toner/Booster
The Asian toner has moisturizing properties and increase the penetration of additional skin care products, meanwhile the western toner provides additional cleansing.

If possible, follow the "3 seconds rules" while applying the toner.
After washing the face, you must immediately moisturize your skin because its moisture level, after 3 seconds, drops only a few percent. But after 30 seconds, it’s 50% and after a minute, it’s down to 41%.
If you don’t moisturize on time the skin will dries up and the aging process kicks in.

Step 4 – Eye cream

Step 5 – Masks (1-2 a week)
Asian masks are cotton sheets soaked in a treatment essence and can be mosturizing, whitening, nourishing..

Step 6 – Serum
It's a light consistency liquid with a high concentration of beneficial ingredients.

Step 7 – Emulsion
It's a moisturizing treatment, which has a lotion-like consistency.

Step 8 – Spot treatments (optional)
They are specific treatment for acne, whitening, antiageing, wrinkle filler...

Step 9 – Cream
Creams are used seal the skin and lock moisture.
There are two types of cream: nourishing and moisturizing. The first one contains more "oil" and it'is indicated for dry skin, the second one contains more "water", however if you have a really oily skin, emulsion is a better option.

Step 10 – Sleeping pack (optional, nighttime only)
A sleeping pack is commonly known as sleeping mask and is applied over the face at night to provide treatment during the sleep.

Step 11 – Sunscreen (morning only)
It's very important protect the skin from UV rays, which cause skin ageing and brown spots.

I tried (end of 2013 until june 2014)  the Asian skin care routine using korean product, but later I've had a serious skin breakout. Maybe it was caused from comedogenic cosmetics, because I was substiting my almost natural routine to a more chemical one. However there were other reasons for my breakout like sun exposure and nutrition.

Now I'm following a similar routine using western natural products,a few of them aren't 100% organic, but are free of parabens, petroleum derivatives, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulfate,...
